Welcome to Forde Abbey
Don’t miss our forthcoming Monmouth Rebellion Re-enactment on August Bank Holiday Saturday and Sunday. Click here for details.
Forde Abbey in Dorset is a treasure dating back almost 900 years. It is a family home as well as a living and breathing working estate, and welcomes visitors all year round.
Please explore our website to see what you can experience on a day visit here: enjoy a stroll around the beautiful 30 acres of gardens and lakes (and watch England’s tallest powered fountain come on three times a day); and marvel at the age and beauty of the house, and the transformations it has gone through during its long life. Admire the famous Mortlake tapestries created from the cartoons Raphael painted for the Sistine Chapel in Rome. Enjoy a tea, or lunch, in the Monastic Undercroft Tearoom; browse the Gift Shop and Plant Centre for that unusual present or perfect plant. Hopefully you will find something for everyone here, and we look forward to welcoming you.
What’s good at the Moment:
The gardens are beautiful at the moment and delicious produce from the Kitchen garden is now being served in the Tearoom each day. Admire the dahlias as you walk up the Kitchen Garden path; they are just a taste of what’s to come.
On a sunny warm day, the scent as you arrive through the Kitchen Garden and walk up to the house is truly one of summer.

We had a lovely workshop here in June with Grace Alexander flowers. Below is a video taken by one of the attendees. Enjoy. And look out for more great events with Grace to come…
